What are Wordle & Tagexedo?Wordle and Tagxedo are both examples of word cloud generators. They can be used in your personal or professional life. “The use of word clouds in the classroom is a powerful way to really get through to visual learners.” (Edudemic, 2013) Word clouds are great tools for allowing students to really see what the focus of a topic or book is; input the important vocabulary or a passage from a book and with a simple click of a button you can see which words really stand out (because most generators will make the popular words larger). Word cloud programs are usually very user-friendly, but word to the wise, they often don’t have an option that allows the user to save as they go. Instead, they are often an all or nothing type of program.
Some word cloud generators, like Wordle, allow you to play with the colour, font, layout, etc. of your cloud. Others, like Tagxedo, actually allow you to shape your cloud. If you were doing a report on Canadian astronaut, Chris Hadfield, you could upload an image of him and then have your word bank fill that image. Explore the different options and discover which one best fits your needs. Additional Information:
