It is the process of creating video games as a method to teach core subjects (English, math, science, and social studies). This type of learning involves engaging the learner through system-thinking, problem-solving, creativity, collaboration and digital media literacies (Gamestar, 2011). Game design tools include Gamestar Mechanic, Sploder, Game Maker, Construct 2, Unity 3D, and Unreal Development Kit.
